Fitness & Health Promotion (2 Year Diploma)

2 Year Fitness & Health Promotion Diploma

Start in September, January or May:

  • The Fitness & Health Promotion program curriculum provides in-depth academic preparation and hands-on professional experience.
  • Structured within the program is the opportunity to earn nationally-recognized certifications (at an additional cost).
  • The program links students with employers, providing an opportunity to develop leadership skills, practical knowledge and career connections.
  • Students will develop skills and knowledge through courses like: Anatomy, Physiology, Fitness Assessment, Counselling, Exercise Prescription, Nutrition, Group Exercise Leadership, Injury Management, Facilities Management, Marketing and Entrepreneurship, and Health Promotion.
  • The faculty work closely with industry and professional associations to ensure that graduates exceed industry standards and that they are sought after employees.

Internship

Valuable practical experience is incorporated through the mandatory internships.  This program includes two internships.

Internship 1-The internship takes place in the third semester and is 6 hours per week for 15 weeks.  Each student will provide physical activity counselling, fitness assessment and exercise prescription services to Humber employees.

Internship 2-This internship is in a commercial, municipal, corporate or private fitness facilty.  The placement is in the fourth semester and is 14 hours per week for 14 weeks.

EARN A KINESIOLOGY DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH-HUMBER!
Qualifed graduates are eligible to transfer into YEAR 3 of the Kinesiology Degree at Guelph-Humber.  Contact the program coordinator for details.

Career Opportunities

Graduates hold positions such as personal trainers, group exercise instructors, health & fitness appraisers, wellness consultants, and program directors in commercial/private fitness and health clubs, corporate fitness centres, and municipal fitness facilities.

Uniforms

A Humber issued uniform is required for some practical components of your program.  Details will be provided at your orientation session or in-class.  The uniform can be purchased at the north campus bookstore.
